President Mohammed Muizzu has assured that the process of handing over the land to recipients under the Binnveriya scheme launched by former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih's administration to provide housing to the people of Male is in full swing.

Although land has been allocated under the Binnveriya scheme in Hulhumale, Giraavaru and Gulhi lagoons, many of the allocated land have not been handed over to the recipients since the change of government. With that, many are questioning whether the land will ever be given to the rightful owners as was decided by the previous government.

Ibrahim Samah, a resident of Male, also asked questions about this government's approach to allocating land in the Raees-ge Javaabu segment, which is being conducted by the government so that the President can directly answer questions from the public.

In response to Samah’s question, President Muizzu said that land would be given to all those on the recipients list under the 'Binnveriya Scheme'

"I want to assure you that the documentation process for all the landowners in Giraavaru and Gulhi lagoons is going very swiftly. The work of making and issuing registrations is underway," he said.

Some areas to be allocated under the Binnveriya scheme have not yet been reclaimed. Legally, the land registry can be made only after the land is dredged, the president said, adding:

  • The issuance of land acquisition certificates for the land allocated in the areas still not dredged is also underway

  • He assured that the document was sufficient to confirm land ownership

"Therefore, the process of issuing letters and registrations is going on in full swing for everyone, without exception, whether it is from the land being dredged at Gulhi, Giraavaru, or Hulhumale lagoons," he said.

Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haider told Atoll Times that the opportunity to hand over the land will expire on Sunday. Therefore, those who have not gone to receive the land registries to date will not get land, he said.

The minister said that the deadline for handover of the lands has been announced and the recipients notified, he said.
