Former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of falsely claiming the projects he had started at the end of his regime.

MDP held a rally in the surfing area of Male on Wednesday. Solih referred to the MDP government's land dredging projects in the Male area to solve the housing problem.

Solih said his government had worked hard to find a solution to the problem.

"We decided to dredge 190 hectares from the Gulhi lagoon. We decided to dredge more than 160 hectares from the Giraavaru lagoon. We decided to dredge over 60 hectares of land in the third phase of Hulhumale. The work had begun and was going on at a fast pace when we lost power”.

"When we stepped down, 40 hectares of land was dredged in the first phase at Gulhi and 60 hectares in the second phase. Today, they are trying to deceive us”.

President Solih said that people were questioning him about the government's claims that the land is being reclaimed by President Mohammed Muizzu now.

"One of the most talked about things now is that. For the people of Male, Muizzu is dredging the Gulhi lagoon. Slanderous lies. Lies upon lies”, Solih said.

"Now they are dredging the land under a loan taken by ING during our government. They are doing it according to our plan and schedule. By June it will be completed. This has nothing to do with this government”.

The previous government started the land reclamation project in Gulhi and Giraavaru.

"He should continue it. He should dredge more from Gulhi lagoon to provide housing for the people of Male. However, nobody will believe it if he says that the work ongoing now is all his, that he began these projects. That’s lying," he said.

Solih then referred to the Uthuru Thila Falhu where the MDP government decided to allocate land.

"I hear that the Uthuru Thila Falhu has been given in agreement to foreigners to cultivate the land. To start agricultural activities on it after reclaiming the land. Are there no other islands in Maldives for agriculture?" Solih vented.

"This is also to mock us. Being bull-headed. Stubborn. To eliminate anything anybody else has done in the country. Lies spread so that he alone becomes the only person to have contributed any service to the country”.
