Justice Shujoon replaced by Husnu Al Suood in JSC

The reason for the replacement of Aishath Shujoon, who is also the vice-chairperson of the commission, is unknown.

Justice Husnu Al Suood was appointed as the Supreme Court judge representing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday, replacing Justice Aishath Shujoon.

Out of the 10 members of the JSC, Aishath Shujoon was appointed as a judge representing the Supreme Court in December 2019. Her term expires later this year.

The Supreme Court said that Justice Husnu Al Suood will represent the court in the JSC from Tuesday onwards.

The reason for the replacement of Aishath Shujoon, who is also the vice-chairperson of the commission, is unknown. The court has not yet commented on the matter.

The post of Vice-President of the JSC has now become vacant. The JSC told Atoll Times on Tuesday that it would appoint a person from among the commission members for the post as soon as possible. The Vice-President shall be appointed by a vote among the members of the Commission.

Aishath Shujoon was appointed as the Vice-President of the JSC, on 17 December. She was the first woman to be appointed to the post. She was also the first woman judge appointed to the Supreme Court.
