With council permit, STELCO repairs leaking saltwater pipe
Senior officials from the city council said that STELCO had applied for permission this afternoon.
STELCO announced on Wednesday that it has started the process of repairing a broken pipe which had resulted saltwater seeping onto the road on Boduthakurufaanu Magu near STELCO’s main power plant.
The city council tweeted Wednesday morning that the council has asked STELCO twice to address the issue of salt water leaking onto the road from a broken underground saltwater pipe installed by the company.
In response STELCO denied being contacted by the city council on the matter, and tweeted in the afternoon that the city council has not communicated the issue in any official form. The company said that it was ready to do everything necessary to rectify the situation and had sought permission from the council, but it was not granted.
Senior officials from the city council said that STELCO had applied for permission Wednesday afternoon, and in the evening STELCO took to Twitter saying that they have already started work to resolve the issue of salt leakage.
"It is important that all institutions work in such a way that matters related to the people and the services provided are not affected", STELCO said in a statement.
Salt water is seeping into the road from the damage caused to an outflow pipe, which supplies water used to cool power plants.
