Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said that there are no details of the incident in which Indian Coast Guard ships entered the country's economic zone and boarded several Maldivian fishing vessels.
Minister Shiyam had been summoned to answer questions from members of Parliament on Tuesday regarding issues within his industry.
Replying to a question by Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahumy on whether the government has now identified the reasons why Indian troops boarded the fishing boats and whether it had been explained to the fishermen, the minister said he was not yet aware of the exact reason.
"I don't have the answer to that question directly. I would clarify this with the relevant authorities and shall get the information and share it with the member," he said.
The Maldivian government has asked the Indian government for an explanation over the boarding of Maldivian fishing vessels.
The defense ministry said earlier this month that it had sought details from the Indian government through the foreign ministry but had received no reply.
