The Youth Ministry's 'Youth Hackathon' began in Maldives on Saturday.
The hackathon, which is divided into three categories and offers a prize of MVR 100K for the team that wins first place, kicked off at a special ceremony held at the Social Center on Saturday. The three areas covered by the hackathon are:
-
Mental Health: Creating innovative solutions using technology to address mental health and health problems
-
Innovative Marketplace: Develop e-commerce strategies that enhance digital capabilities and facilitate business growth.
-
Creator Economy: Create innovative apps for content creators that address robust use of digital platforms and technology for wellness, physical wellness, mindfulness, and mental wellbeing
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed said that the hackathon will raise useful and productive ideas in all three areas. He also noted the importance of technology increasing in the changing pace of the world.
The Minister also highlighted some of the things that will be achieved with this event. He said:
-
Develop the skills needed to advance youth in the field of technology
-
Facilitate opportunities to use such skills in the global market
The minister also noted that a relatively large number of young women have participated in the event. A team consisting entirely of women is taking part, he pointed out.
He also thanked the businesses that supported the event.
Ooredoo Maldives is the main partner of this hackathon. Co-partners include MasterCard, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) and RaajjeOnline (ROL). It is an event that President Mohammed Muizzu had planned to launch in the first 14 weeks of his presidency.
