WAMCO clears 200 tons of trash from Male streets

In the past 15 days, 200 tons of garbage has been removed from the city, Mayor Adam Azim said.
After cleaning homes for Ramadan, many people took the garbage out onto the streets. So, piles of trash could be seen throughout large parts whole city these past two weeks. Some of the streets were so packed with garbage that it was difficult to walk or drive.
Mayor Azim said that 59.6 tonnes of garbage was removed from the streets of the city on Sunday alone. In the past 15 days, 200 tonnes of garbage has been removed from the city, he said.
“This is eight 25-foot containers of garbage,” Azim said in a Facebook post.
"It is my request to not turn the street into a garbage dump. Keeping your home and your environment clean will be a comfort for everyone”.
According to statistics released by the city council, 100% of garbage was removed from 17 streets on Sunday.
26 streets were cleaned on Sunday and 51 pickup trucks carried the trash. Seven three-ton pickups, 16 1.5-ton pickups and another 28 pickups removed garbage on Sunday.
