President Mohammed Muizzu said on Tuesday evening that more than 200 laws need to be passed to fulfil the promises he made to the people when he came to power, for which the government's parliamentary majority is crucial.
Speaking at a rally held at Phase II in Hulhumale on Tuesday evening, the President said he would like for the government to be given a majority in parliament so he can make the dreams of Maldivians a reality.
"Then I will make progress in fulfilling the promises I made, included in my manifesto, the promises that the people trusted, and I will be able to produce results," he said.
All the promises he made to the people have been written down and nothing will be hidden, he said.
"Parliament has a huge role to play in fulfilling those promises. There are more than 200 laws that we need to pass through Parliament, including amendments, to fulfil these promises for the next five years”.
The President said there are important bills to be introduced in Parliament during this session. Among them:
-
A new land bill
-
A special bill on housing
-
A bill on real estate
-
Bills needed to enact laws similar to those made in other crowded cities
