The International Aid Campaign (IAC) said on Sunday it had handed over funds to transport the family of Palestinian professor Dr Hassan al-Kurdi, who works at the Islamic University of Maldives, to Egypt from Gaza.
The IAC is also funding the evacuation of Kurdi’s family stranded in Gaza, where Israel is committing genocide, and bringing them safely to Maldives.
The IAC said in a statement published in X on Sunday that it had handed over the money needed to take Kurdi's family to Egypt.
“We hope and pray that the doctor's family will be brought back to Maldives safely as soon as possible,” the IAC said.
Kurdi's family lived in Rafah, Gaza. His house was destroyed in the war.
Deportation from Gaza to Egypt costs USD 10,000 per person, paid to the Egyptian agents in charge. It is expected to cost about USD 54,000 (MVR 832,000) to evacuate Kurdi's family. The IAC, however, did not provide more details.
