The ruling PPM/PNC coalition is edging closer to a super majority in Parliament, provisional results show.
Provisional results of the Sunday's parliamentary elections are being counted, into the early hours of Monday morning. Provisional results show that the government is close to winning a super majority in parliament.
Provisional results as at show that:

PNC: leading in 71 constituencies

MDP: 12 constituencies

Independent- 6 constituencies

MDA - 2 constituencies

JP - 1 constituencies

MNP - 1 constituencies
Even if their is change in the preliminary results, with the help of its allies MDA and MNP, the government is more than likely to cross the 70 seat mark to secure parliament super majority.
The result is crucial for incumbent president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as he aims to consolidate his rule just a few months after winning the presidency.
The Democrats, Adhaalat Party and former President Abdullah Yameen's candidates have not won any seats so far. The government candidates have also defeated those who have served in parliament for many terms. The MDP, which had a supermajority in the 19th parliament, has also lost its stronghold in major constituents.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker have also lost failed their re-election bids this term.
