Maldivian Hajj pilgrim dies in Mecca

This pilgrim was treated for a heart attack last Monday.

A Maldivian woman who went to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage died in Mecca on Wednesday evening.

The Islamic Ministry said that the deceased is Fathimath Hafeeza, Hafeezee-Hiyaa/R.Hulhudhuffaaru.

The 80-year-old woman’s funeral prayers will be held at Masjid al-Haram, the Islamic Ministry said. The ministry did not give further details.

This pilgrim was treated for a heart attack last Monday. Islamic Minister Dr Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed said she was in good condition afterwards.

Hajj 2024

  • This year, 1,150 pilgrims from Maldives went for the Hajj

  • Everyone went for Hajj under the care of the Maldives Hajj Corporation

  • A special team of doctors also work with the Hajj Corporation to monitor the health of the pilgrims

  • A special clinic has been set up at the hotel where the pilgrims are staying

  • Special doctors have been appointed to look after all matters related to the health of the pilgrims
