Planned amendment won't restrict RTI, insists AG
The AG insisted that the planned amendment will be designed to solve difficulties faced in implementing the current law.
Summary
The AG insisted that the planned amendment will be designed to solve difficulties faced in implementing the current law.
The planned amendment to the country's right to information Act would not restrict the fundamental right to information, Attorney General Ahmed Usham insisted Thursday.
The amendment to the RTI is included in the government's planned legislative agenda for the current parliament's session.
"We have no intention to annul the current RTI Act. We have never even entertained the idea," Usham told reporters on Thursday addressing concerns over the planned amendment to the Act.
The AG insisted that the planned amendment will be designed to solve difficulties faced in implementing the current law.
However, the AG did not provide any more details when pressed by reporters during the press conference.
"We must admit that there are several difficulties in implementing the law in its current state. Information Commissioner is also several obstacles. We need to find a way to overcome that," he added.
