Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed left for the United States on Monday on an official visit.

The Economic Ministry's X account announced the trip on Monday. The ministry said the visit is aimed at expanding trade between the two countries and facilitating increased investments.

During his visit, Minister Saeed will meet with prominent US business leaders. These include:

  • Trade Representatives

  • Members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

  • Other government agencies

Saeed left for the United States on Monday while Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer had also paid an official visit to the United States late last month.

It is hard to ignore that two Maldivian ministers have been on official visits to the United States in close proximity to the Cabinet's decision to ban Israelis from coming to Maldives, even after an American lawmaker introduced a Senate bill to cut US aid to Maldives altogether.

The relevant Senate committee recently ruled that any aid should be given to Maldives after ensuring that it does not take such action. This is followed by two official visits.
