Islamic Minister Dr Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed has responded to allegations saying that he has not used his influence to secure a job for his children or family members.
Shaheem's son Mahil Shaheem has been given a job at the Malaysian High Commission and the minister’s brother Ahmed Shifaz has been given the post of Deputy Minister of Tourism. The minister is facing backlash for it on social media.
In a post on his Facebook page, Shaheem said that an opportunity for his child or family member to serve in their specialised field is not an opportunity he will seek for them under the table.
“I assure you that I will not misuse state property, position or money,” he wrote on his Facebook in response to the criticism.
