Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef has said that the company plans to expand its seaplane service to provide service at night as well.
Speaking at a panel discussion on leisure destinations held at the Air Service World Congress held at Kurumba Resort on Wednesday, Shareef said Maldives is the best destination for introducing and developing modern seaplane technology.
The world's largest seaplane hub and the largest seaplane service provider is in Maldives.
Shareef said the seaplane service will be expanded by installing lights on the water runway.
Currently, seaplane services are available from morning till sunset.
“This change will bring further growth to the tourism industry and a major structural boost to the aviation sector in Maldives,” Shareef said at Wednesday's panel discussion.
The Air Service World Congress is a meeting to strengthen relationships between the industry and bring together air transport businesses. This is the seventh year of the congress.
