A young man working to build a mosque in Bangladesh with Maldivian donations has been seriously injured in a car accident.
Hussain Haisham, operations manager of the aid organisation ‘Khidhumaiy’, had the accident while working on a mosque in Bangladesh. He broke his femur in the accident.
A senior official of the Khidhumaiy association said on Monday that the accident occurred when the driver of the car he was travelling in fell asleep and hit a roadside tree on the way from Dhaka to Chittagong.
"It was an eight-hour journey. The driver fell asleep and lost control of the car and hit a tree. He hit one tree and then another," he said.
According to the official, Haisham was sitting next to the driver in the front seat. Both men were injured in the accident, he said.
Four mosques are being built in Bangladesh with the help of Maldivians. Haisham was working on building the fifth mosque in Chittagong.
"It was very difficult to treat him. He has now been taken to a third hospital. Hopefully he will be operated on today at the private hospital he is in now," the official said.
