Dubai-based budget airline Flydubai on Sunday launched direct flights between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

FlyDubai will operate daily flights between Male and Colombo using Boeing 737 aircraft.

The flight will leave from Male at 8:35am and return to Male at 12:55pm.

Meanwhile, Flydubai has announced plans to a launch a new daily service to Gan International Airport in the southernmost Addu atoll of Maldives from 4 February 2023.

Flights will operate daily from Terminal 3, Dubai International (DXB) to Gan International Airport (GAN). Emirates will codeshare on this route, providing passengers with more options for connections through Dubai’s international aviation hub.

In addition to Flydubai, Sri Lanka's flag carrier SriLankan Airlines is the only airline that operates flights between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Maldives' flag carrier Maldivian started flights to Sri Lanka last year but has since suspended the operations.
