Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the Maldives in late July.
The three-day visit will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Anura’s visit will focus on enhancing bilateral ties across multiple sectors, including economic and trade relations, as well as broader foreign policy and regional cooperation.
This will be President Anura’s first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office.
During the visit, both countries are expected to hold discussions on establishing a proposed Maldives–Sri Lanka Free Economic and Free Movement Zone. If finalised, the agreement would allow citizens of both countries to live, work, conduct business, purchase property, and pursue education without a visa.
