Ahmed Thoriq, the Deputy Leader of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group, which also has a super majority in the Parliament, has resigned.
Thoriq said in an X post that he resigned due to personal reasons, adding that because of the way things are in his personal life, he cannot give time to fulfil his responsibilities with the parliamentary group.
There is a total of four MPS acting as the party's PG deputy leaders, including Thoriq. The others are:

While Thoriq resigned as the deputy leader of his party’s PG citing personal reasons, he has decided to contest for the post of president of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
