Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar will pay an official visit to Maldives next month, Indian newspapers reported on Tuesday.
Jaishankar will arrive in Maldives on August 9 for 2-3 days, the newspapers said.
Jaishankar's visit will be the first official visit by an Indian minister to Maldives in the government of President Mohamed Muizzu. During the visit, Jaishankar will hold talks with President Muizzu and his Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer.
Jaishankar's visit will show that Maldives-India relations are recovering.
Withdrawal of Indian troops from Maldives and the insulting comments of three Maldivian deputy ministers on social media to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have further strained relations with India.
President Muizzu arrived in India to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term. Zameer also made an official visit to New Delhi.
Maldivian tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal is also in India to participate in the Welcome India campaign to promote Maldives in the country. Faisal met the Indian tourism minister and transport minister on Tuesday.
