A system to view all health records of patients in one place has been introduced in two atolls.
The announcement was made by Health Minister Abdulla Khaleel, who attended the parliament session on Tuesday, in response to a question raised by Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad.
To the question regarding the efforts being made to improve public health in Maldives, Khaleel related how the non-availability of health records of patients in one place causes difficulties for both patients and doctors.
Khaleel said the pilot project of the system will be implemented in Fuvahmulah and Baa atoll. He added:
-
Work underway to implement the system in Dhaalu and other atolls
-
This will allow the patient's information to be seen in one place and the system will alert if the patient is suspected of developing a serious illness
-
Then the patient and the doctor will find it easier to proceed with treatments
Khaleel said foreign assistance is being sought to establish an urban primary care system in the Male area to expand the public health sector.
“Once the system is in place, a holistic approach will strengthen the system of primary health care”, he said.
Via the urban care system, the minister said:
-
Some clinical work will be done
-
They will monitor children's growth and other child health related activities
-
Some special services will be provided to the elderly
-
They will visit the elderly and the bedridden, expanding these services
-
A wellness centre will be set up and the service will be launched
Khaleel said the aim is to establish a facility like a wellness centre in all cities and capital islands of every atoll.
