Maldives foreign minister Moosa Zameer on Sunday departed on an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said the visit follows an invitation from Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud.
The visit, which runs from August 18 to 22, will include discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for further cooperation, it added.
Zameer will deliver a letter from President Mohamed Muizzu addressed to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to the ministry, the discussions between the Maldivian and Saudi delegations will focus on reviewing the long-standing ties between the two countries, which have now spanned 43 years, and identifying avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Zameer is scheduled to hold discussions with other senior officials in the Saudi government and representatives of the Saudi Fund for Development. His engagements will also include an interaction with the Maldivian community residing in Riyadh, where he will inquire about their well-being.
Zameer is accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Ahmed Munawar, Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority; Ahmed Naseer, Ambassador-at-Large; and Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited.
