Maldives urges united Islamic support for Palestine

Foreign minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has called upon Islamic and Arab nations to amplify their efforts to support the Palestinian cause, emphasising the collective responsibility of the global Islamic community.
Attending the preparatory meeting of foreign ministers Sunday, ahead of the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia on Monday, Khaleel voiced a firm condemnation of Israel’s continuous and violent attacks on Palestinians, which he described as acts of genocide.
He highlighted that the oppression and injustices faced by the Palestinian people demand unified and unwavering support from the entire Islamic Ummah.
Khaleel expressed deep concern over Israel’s repeated violations of international law and called for a stronger commitment to enforcing these laws without exception. He urged for Israel’s actions to be scrutinised and addressed in international forums such as the United Nations Security Council and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The minister stressed that holding Israel accountable for its actions was essential to uphold justice and maintain international peace.
Reaffirming the Maldives' steadfast stance, Khaleel assured that his nation would continue to advocate for the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. He pledged the Maldives' readiness to collaborate with other Islamic countries in pursuit of a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue.
“The only enduring solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict lies in the recognition of East Jerusalem as the sovereign capital of an independent and self-governing Palestinian state, established within the pre-1967 borders,” Khaleel asserted.
The upcoming Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, organised by the Saudi government in collaboration with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, aims to address solutions to the escalating Israeli aggression in Palestine and Lebanon.
