7 charged with attempted murder over ex-PG's attack

The Prosecutor General’s office (PG) has filed a charge sheet of attempt to murder against seven people arrested in connection with the attack on former Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem.

Shameem was attacked early on January 31 in front of his house. Seven people were arrested and remanded in custody pending trial. Their charge sheets were sent to the prosecutor's office last Sunday for prosecution by the Police.

The seven were charged and filed in the Criminal Court on Thursday, the prosecutor's office said on Sunday. They have all been charged with attempted murder using a weapon.

1. Midhuhath Adam, 24, Riveli/R. Alifushi

According to the charges, Midhuhath was the man who planned the attack with others and went to the area while Shameem was near Noor Mosque. On January 31, 2013, at 7:42 am, he tried to attack Shameem on the head while he was on the road near the Noor Mosque, injuring Shameem’s arm in the process

2. Mohamed Jazlan, 22, Thundi Jawaahiru Villa/L. Gan

According to the indictment, Jazlan was the accomplice in the murder attempt, the one that drove Midhuhath near Noor Mosque to attack Shameem; after Midhuhath attacked Shameem, Jazlan also drove away with Midhuhath

3. Ahmed Maisan Hashim, 20, Male Dhaftharu 2247

According to the charges, Maisan was the one who facilitated the ride for the attack on Shameem near Noor Mosque

They have also been charged with attempting to kill a person using a deadly weapon. According to the chargesheet, the four men stayed in the area in a car till Shameem was attacked near Noor mosque. According to the chargesheet, these four had left the area along with the assailants after the attack was over.
