Police have launched an investigation into a Maldivian man who had taken photographs of President Mohamed Muizzu during a visit to Singapore, his mobile phone seized upon arrival in the Maldives.
A photo of President Muizzu and his family at a shopping mall in Singapore was circulated on social media last week.
It is learned that the accused's phone was seized by police under a court order when he arrived at the Velana International Airport (VIA) from Singapore on Saturday evening.
When asked about the matter, a police spokesman said the phone was seized in connection with a case of the President's "security being compromised".
“Police are investigating the case,” he said.
The circulating photograph shows the President and first lady Sajida Mohamed. The President's daughter is also seen behind the first couple. In addition, the photo shows the president's three bodyguards active behind them.
