A man was sentenced to life in prison and fined MVR 100,000 by the Criminal Court on Tuesday for finding 9 grams of drugs in a cigarette box he threw away when he was stopped by police two years ago.
The Criminal Court sentenced Hassan Sifah to life imprisonment and a fine of MVR 100,000.
The fine must be paid to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) in a year.
After deducting the days spent in jail, the sentence is 24 years and 11 months in jail.
