President Mohamed Muizzu will visit India, Maldivian government announced Tuesday.

Presidential spokesperson Heena Waleed at a press conference at the President's Office.

Heena said the exact date of the visit has not yet been announced and discussions are currently underway between the two countries.

Heena did not disclose any details about the visit.

This is Muizzu's second visit to India since taking office in November. His first visit to the country was in June to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the third time.

During the visit, President Muizzu met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Modi and discussed further strengthening bilateral relations.

Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar also paid a courtesy call on the president.

Jaishankar made his first visit to Maldives in the new government in July.

Contrary to the usual practice, President Muizzu did not make his first official visit to India but to Turkey after taking office. He then made his first state visit to China in January.
