The number of foreigners proposing to marry Maldivians is increasing significantly.
The increase comes as Immigration has begun to track down and deport illegal immigrants. Most of the foreigners deported are living in Maldives without valid visas.
Family Court spokesperson Ahmed Saffan said on Wednesday that the number of applications for marriage between Maldivians and foreigners has increased. There is also a huge age difference between those who propose to marry, he said.
He noted that changes have been made to the documents required to be submitted with the application form to ensure that such foreigners are legally resident in Maldives.
The changes made on Tuesday are:
-
Include a copy of the foreigner's valid visa
-
