
Over 1,100 road accidents reported in Male’ region this year

The Maldives Police Service has reported 1,101 road accidents in the Male’ region from January to the end of last month.
According to police statistics released on Monday, between 100 and 200 road accidents have occurred each month across Male’, Sinamalé Bridge, and adjoining highways. The highest number of incidents was recorded in February, with 215 accidents. The lowest monthly total so far this year was in January, with 151 reported.
The data also shows that 68% of the accidents (745 cases) occurred during daylight hours, while 356 incidents (32%) took place at night.
In terms of accident outcomes:

The most common type of collision involved motorcycles and cars.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the police urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations and cooperate to improve road safety.
The latest major incident involved a fatal accident in front of the Maafannu bus terminal on Sunday night. A 17-year-old boy died, and two others—a 16-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man—were seriously injured.
