Abbas Shareef appointed as chief prosecutor
Parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of Abbas, serving as the Legal Secretary at the President’s Office, to the vacant post of prosecutor general.

Six candidates contested for the post of prosecutor. However, President Mohamed Muizzu sent only Abbas' name to parliament.
Abbas confirmed to Atoll Times that he had been appointed to the post on Wednesday.
The post of PG became vacant after Hussain Shameem resigned last month and parliament decided to remove him. Shameem resigned after the judiciary committee decided to remove him from office.
