UK introduces payment scheme for travellers from Maldives
Maldivians with ETA will be allowed multiple trips to the UK for a maximum of 6 months a year or until the passport expires
The United Kingdom has amended its immigration regulations to require Maldivians traveling to the UK to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from January 8, 2025.
Maldives foreign ministry said in a statement Thursday that the UK made the move in order to digitise and further strengthen its border control security to prevent abuse of the immigration system and take additional security measures.
According to the foreign ministry:
-
ETA will be valid for two years
-
Maldivians with ETA will be allowed multiple trips to the UK for a maximum of 6 months a year or until the passport expires
-
An ETA costs £10
Following the change, citizens of 49 countries, including Maldivians, will be able to apply for ETA from November 27.
From April 2, 2025, everyone traveling to the UK, except UK and Irish citizens, will be required to apply for an ETA.
