Stalled Rasmale city will become reality, govt says
Heena emphasised that the president had previously announced plans to construct 30,000 housing units in Rasmale.
Government on Thursday assured that the Rasmale project will be a reality, as President Mohamed Muizzu pledged.
Chief spokesperson at the President's Office, Heena Waleed, made these remarks during a press conference held at the President's Office on Wednesday.
In response to a question from a journalist at the press conference, Heena stated that one of the president's primary commitments is to provide adequate housing for everyone.
She noted that the president had stressed on the inclusion of the Rasmale project in this year's budget.
However, she noted that when the budget was passed for the year, the previous Parliament did not allocate funds for the project, thus hindering its implementation.
Heena emphasised that the president had previously announced plans to construct 30,000 housing units in Rasmale to address the housing needs of the community.
The dredging of the lagoon started on December 18, 2023 in collaboration with Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMC), but it has stalled.
President Muizzu had earlier announced that 1,153 hectares of land would be reclaimed from the Fushidhiggaru lagoon near Gulhi and if the work goes as per schedule, it will be completed within eight months.
