Ibrahim Shareef, Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), has denied reports that the operation of the CIP/VIP terminal at Velana International Airport will be handed over to Jetex, a Dubai-based aviation services company.
Speaking to Atoll Times on Saturday, Shareef said no decision had been made to transfer the operation of the CIP terminal or any other terminal to another party.
“We have not decided to give the CIP terminal of Velana International Airport or any other terminal to anyone. We are not dealing with that,” Shareef stated.
He confirmed that MACL had only reviewed proposals submitted by interested parties but had not entered into any agreement or finalised any plans.
A proposal submitted by Jetex to MACL, which is under discussion, includes a request for 10,000 square metres of land at the airport to build and operate a new CIP/VIP terminal. The proposal outlines a 25-year concession period during which Jetex would invest USD 25 million in the facility.
According to the proposal, Jetex would also assume responsibility for all related services provided to private jets at the terminal, including refuelling operations.
