Mauroof Jameel on Wednesday resigned from his position as the Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Mauroof, who led the company at its inception, was reappointed as Managing Director in December. He had earlier announced plans to retire on 18 August but reportedly resigned after being asked to resign by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB).
His resignation comes amid speculation of changes in the leadership of various government-owned companies.
Despite stepping down, Mauroof has previously stated his intention to remain with HDC in an advisory role.
Prior to his work with HDC, Mauroof served as Director General of the Hulhumalé Development Unit, which was responsible for development efforts in Hulhumalé before HDC’s formation. He also served as Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure during the administration of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and held senior positions in HDC and the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC).
He has also been involved in work related to architectural heritage.
Mauroof was appointed as HDC’s Managing Director following the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, who stepped down in the wake of corruption allegations related to the allocation of land and flats in Hulhumalé.
