MPL cuts hours, suspends travel and training
MPL said the measures took effect last Tuesday and are aligned with broader government efforts to manage economic risks.
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has introduced a set of measures aimed at reducing expenditure in response to economic conditions linked to the Middle East conflict.
In a statement, MPL said the measures took effect last Tuesday and are aligned with broader government efforts to manage economic risks.
Under the new arrangements, official working hours for administrative staff have been revised to 7:30am to 3:30pm. For employees in operational roles, shift durations have been limited to a maximum of eight hours per day.
The company has also suspended non-essential overseas travel. For essential travel funded by external parties, additional costs will be minimised. Meetings with international clients and suppliers will be conducted online.
MPL said overseas training programmes have been suspended, with staff required to participate in training through online platforms.
The Maldives Maritime Conference 2026 has been postponed. The company also confirmed that measures have been introduced to reduce electricity consumption and related costs.
Despite the changes, MPL said there will be no impact on cargo discharging and clearing services at the Malé Commercial Harbour.
“We assure our customers that despite these internal adjustments, cargo discharging and clearing services will continue without interruption,” the statement said.
