PPM-PMC presidential candidate, Male mayor Dr Mohamed Muizz pledged on Saturday to introduce eco-tourism in HDh. Keylakunu for the benefit of everyone in the atoll.
Muizz started his campaign trip to the Boduthiladhummathi on Saturday. The incumbent mayor of Male made some promising comments about Keylakunu.
Muizz said the island will be developed as an eco-tourism island under the PPM government.
-
The beauty and natural uniqueness of the island will not be lost
-
The project will benefit the entire province's economy
"So far, running a resort in the H.Dh. province has not happened. Hopefully, we will do it this time," he said.
-
Has unique natural characteristics
-
The uninhabited island is close to Kulhudhuffushi and other islands in the atoll
-
An island protected by the government
-
Over 80 hectares in size
-
There is a large lake and marshland
-
People do not usually go to the island
The government of President Abdulla Yameen, in which Muizz was housing minister, opened Keylakunu for lease for tourism development in 2017. However, many people expressed concern that tourism in an environmentally special island could cause serious damage to the island. Therefore, the project was not carried out.
Speaking at the rally held at the atoll's capital Saturday evening, Muizz said that he would do a lot of things for Kulhudhuffushi.
He said that in the last five years, Kulhudhuffushi has been left behind in development. Whether it is road construction, port construction or hospital development, nothing has gone well, he said.
That's why there is always a lot of progress that needs to be made in the island, where a lot of people from the north visit the island every day, he said.
Muizz's promises to Kulhudhuffushi include:
-
Construction of roads in Kulhudhuffushi like the roads in Male; the main roads will be tarred and the smaller roads will be paved
-
Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to be able to provide an array of treatments for all major diseases of the lungs, kidneys, brain and heart; a catheter lab will be set up there and the hospital will be connected to European clinics
-
Establishment of a Dhamana Veshi (Urban Primary Healthcare Centre) in Kulhudhuffushi similar to that in Male
-
Further development of the airport and improvement of facilities
-
The land north of the airport will be shaped to benefit the people
“If you trust us and give us the opportunity, I can assure you that we will shape development according to the people's wishes,” Muizz said.
