The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) of the Maldives National University (MNU) has been accredited as an associate member of Ecole Hotelie de Lausanne (EHL), a world-class hospitality education provider.
MNU said in a statement on Monday that EHL's accreditation was obtained after a thorough audit.
The audit looked at:
-
Curriculum
-
Faculty experience
-
Resources
-
Services to students
-
Established relationships with various stakeholders in the industry
-
Compliance with international standards of hospitality education
The EHL accreditation, MNU said, is a testament to the quality of education provided by the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism and its compliance with international standards.
With that accreditation, the FHTS Bachelor of International Hospitality Management program will be recognised by EHL.
Further opportunities for FHTS include:
-
Participate in a large network of world-renowned people and institutions in the hospitality sector
-
Opportunity to conduct collaborative research
-

FHTS
MNU said one of the biggest strengths of FHTS is the experienced team of the faculty who bring many experiences in the hospitality field with teaching skills directly to the classroom. As such, FHTS and its faculty lecturers are working to:
-
To build hospitality leaders
-
To understand how this industry works
-
To foster relationships with industry leaders and provide opportunities for students; along with that, internships and networking opportunities are also available
New programme
With the accreditation, FHTS has also announced a new programme called 'Professional Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership' in collaboration with EHL.
The program is shaped, MNU said, to address the changing trends in the country’s hospitality sector, to improve the leadership level of professionals in the industry and to teach them the skills they will need when working in supervisory and managerial positions.
Some of the key areas of the programme's curriculum are:
-
Strategic management
-
Financial analysis
-
Marketing
-
Guest experience management
In addition, the course will also focus on good communication skills, problem solving and decision making.
Students who complete the program will receive an EHL-recognised Professional Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership.
