MPL introduces surcharge on pilotage services
The pilotage service provides safe entry and exit navigation information to vessels entering the port.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to levy surcharges on its pilotage services.
The company said the charges will start from the 21st of this month.
While MPL introduced this surcharge, the state company has previously been criticized to cause reducing cruise liner arrivals due to higher fees. The company had reduced the fee then.
With this fee charged by MPL:

vessels below 500 GT will be charged a fee of MVR 1,080
-
vessels between 501 GT and 3,000 GT will be charged MVR 1,620
-
vessels of 3,001 GT -15,000 GT will be charged MVR 3,240
-
MVR 5,400 for vessels above 15,000 GT
The pilotage service provides safe entry and exit navigation information to vessels entering the port. Special vessels are used for this purpose.
