The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) on Wednesday appointed former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohamed Rishwan as the Managing Director and Board Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

Rishwan has previously held senior positions in government, including:

  • Deputy Commissioner of Police during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed, a position he resigned from on 12 July 2011.

  • Deputy CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

The position of MPL Managing Director became vacant following the dismissal of Mohamed Wajeeh on Sunday. Wajeeh is related to Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

His removal follows the dismissal of Ibrahim Faisal, son of Abdul Raheem, from the position of Minister of Tourism last week. The dismissals come amid reports of a strained relationship between President Mohamed Muizzu and Abdul Raheem.
