Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Sunday entered into an agreement to expand the apron at N. Maafaru International Airport, a project poised to significantly enhance the airport’s infrastructure and capacity.

The agreement was officially signed by IASL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas, and MTCC’s CEO and Managing Director Abdulla Ziyad, underscoring the commitment of both entities to the continued development of the Maldives as a premier global aviation hub.

The expansion will involve paving a total area of 15,300 square metres, effectively doubling the airport’s current aircraft parking capacity.

Presently, Maafaru International Airport can accommodate 13 business jets simultaneously, but upon completion of the project, it will be able to park up to 26 business jets at once.

“This expansion is a critical milestone for Maafaru International Airport. By doubling our aircraft parking capacity, we are not only meeting the growing needs of business jet operators but also positioning Maafaru as a key gateway in the region, capable of delivering exceptional services for our customers and enhancing the operational efficiency," brahim Iyas, Managing Director of IASL, said.

The project is set to be completed within six months, ensuring that Maafaru International Airport is equipped to meet the future demands of the aviation industry.

The expanded capacity will enable the airport to offer more efficient and seamless services, reinforcing its status as a preferred destination for high-end travellers and business jet operators alike.

“Our collaboration with IASL expands the chapter in the development of Maafaru International Airport. We are proud to contribute our expertise to a project that will have a lasting impact on the regions connectivity and economic growth," Abdulla Ziyad, CEO and Managing Director of MTCC, added.
