Per person aid from property Zakat rises
The Zakat House has now fixed the rate of property Zakat MVR Rs 9,353.4.
Monetary aid per person from the funds received as Zakat has been higher this year than in previous years.
The Zakat House has started distributing money to those registered as poor and needy. The agency, which is under the Islamic Ministry, said the money has been deposited into the accounts of 3,193 people on the list.
They said they will distribute MVR 4,000 per head as property Zakat this year. This is the highest per person distribution of property Zakat money directly to the poor and needy.
According to Zakat House:

Last year, MVR 3,500 per person was distributed

In 2022, MVR 3,000 per person was distributed, compared to MVR 2,700 in the previous year
Zakat money is used directly for other expenses besides the money given in this way. These include assistance for essential needs, medical treatment and assistance in special circumstances and emergencies.
The Zakat House said the Zakat Fund spent the most money on medical treatment this year. The fund has provided MVR 16.7 million for medical treatment.
The Zakat House has now fixed the rate of property Zakat MVR Rs 9,353.4. Property Zakat is collected by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
