Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) on Thursday forecast unfavourable weather conditions for the next two days.
The MET office reported that the weather has been unstable since the beginning of this week, with strong winds prevailing over rain, leading to rough seas.
A yellow alert has been in effect for certain regions since Wednesday. A white alert has been issued for the southern regions.
According to the MET office, the western monsoon will persist until November, a period during which storms and rain are common. However, the current heavy rains are expected to ease within two days.
"It will remain windy until Saturday, after which conditions are expected to improve," a MET office official stated.
The recent weather has brought strong winds and turbulent seas, particularly affecting the central-north and central regions of the Maldives. Key updates include:
-
A yellow alert is in place from Haa Alif Atoll to Vaavu Atoll
-
Wind speeds are expected to range between 25 and 30 mph, reaching up to 50 mph in cloudy conditions
-
Seas are forecasted to remain rough
