MET warns seafarers as cyclone develops in Bay of Bengal

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) on Monday issued a warning to seafarers to remain vigilant due to the expected formation of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal.
The advisory comes as the region transitions from the southwestern monsoon to the northeastern monsoon, a period characterised by potential thunderstorms and unstable weather conditions.
According to the MET office:

A cyclone is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal on Monday and is likely to make landfall along the Tamil Nadu coast in southern India within the next two days.

Another cyclone is predicted to form south of Maldives and move westward during the week.
The forecast indicates strong winds and rough seas in the region over the next five days:

Southern and central atolls can expect winds between 17 and 27 mph, while northern atolls may experience winds between 13 and 23 mph.

Seas will be rough in the northern atolls and very rough in the southern and central atolls.

Gusts of up to 40-55 mph may occur during thundershowers.
