A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an arson incident in Male’.
Within 24 hours of his arrest, the suspect was brought before the Criminal Court, where he denied the charges during a closed hearing.
According to the court documents, the man faces charges of intentional arson.
Despite his denial, he admitted at the scene that he had initiated the fire. In his defense, the suspect stated that the fire was not meant to cause harm but rather “to make a design in the room.”
Police reports reveal that when officers arrived at the scene, they found burning papers attached to the wall. Officers extinguished the fire immediately and detained the man for questioning.
The fire occurred in a residential house in Male’, but authorities have not disclosed the specific location. There is also no confirmed information regarding any injuries resulting from the incident.
The suspect, who has a prior criminal record, was presented before Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Zihunee. After reviewing the case, Judge Zihunee ordered that the man be remanded in custody for five days pending further investigation.
