A team from Singapore has arrived in the Maldives to investigate the death of a Singaporean student, who lost her life in a boating accident near Adh. Dhigurah island on Friday.
The deceased, identified as 15-year-old Jenna Chan, was in the Maldives on a school excursion focused on whale shark research. Chan was a student at Singapore's St. Joseph’s Institute (SJI) and was participating in a school-sponsored programme, the National Youth Achievement Award, aimed at secondary-grade students.
The incident occurred after Chen reportedly jumped from an excursion boat, following which she was fatally struck by the boat's propeller.
According to sources, a team from Singapore has now arrived in the Maldives to support the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Chan's family, along with representatives from her school, have also travelled to the Maldives.
Local authorities have not yet released further information regarding the incident.
