Parliament to sack CSC, EC, ACC members
In addition to initiating the removal process, parliament is also considering amendments to the governing laws of these commissions.
Parliament is set to begin proceedings on Tuesday to remove Mohamed Naseeh, president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), along with deputy presidents of both the Elections Commission (EC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The bill for the removal will be referred to the parliament’s standing committee, which will oversee the process.
According to Tuesday's sitting agenda, the committee’s recommendations include:
-
CSC President Mohamed Naseeh
-
ACC Vice President Abdul Salam and another commission member
-
EC Vice President Ali Nashath and two other commission members
Naseeh and Salam were appointed to their respective positions during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In addition to initiating the removal process, parliament is also considering amendments to the governing laws of these commissions. These amendments would grant the president authority to appoint the president and deputy president of both the ACC and the EC.
