The Maldivian Immigration authorities are preparing to deport a French family who has been living illegally in the country for nearly 12 years.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamaan Waheed revealed that the family came under scrutiny last July through Immigration Watch, a system aimed at identifying residency violations.
According to Shamaan, the family consists of six members, all of whom have overstayed their visit with expired passports. Following the investigation, the family was summoned to the Immigration office in October, where their case was formally processed.
Efforts are now underway to obtain the necessary travel documents for their deportation, with assistance from the Maldivian Foreign Ministry. Shamaan emphasized the importance of adhering to immigration laws, stating, “No one can be allowed to live in Maldives in violation of the Immigration Act.”
