Over 2,000 Maldivian students registered as studying abroad
These students include those studying under government scholarships, foreign-sponsored scholarships, and self-financed programmes.
Higher education ministry announced on Monday that more than 2,000 Maldivian students have registered as studying abroad since the establishment of a student register in April last year.
The register was introduced to identify and monitor Maldivian students pursuing education overseas. According to the ministry:
-
A total of 2,116 students have registered.
-
Among them, 915 are male students, and 1,201 are female students.
These students include those studying under government scholarships, foreign-sponsored scholarships, and self-financed programmes.
The establishment of this register is a requirement under the Maldives Higher Education and Training Act, which mandates the ministry to maintain records of Maldivian students abroad to ensure better monitoring and support.
