High Court dismisses case against Anti-Defection Act
The amendments to the constitution were introduced after the Anti-Defection Act case was filed in the High Court.
High Court has dismissed a constitutional case filed against the Anti-Defection Act passed by the former parliament.
According to the High Court registry, the case was dismissed following amendments made to the constitution that define the conditions under which Members of Parliament (MPs) lose their seats.
The constitutional amendment has been referred to the Supreme Court for review. The Supreme Court has accepted a case on the matter filed by former MP Ali Hussain.
The amendments to the constitution were introduced after the Anti-Defection Act case was filed in the High Court. The bill was presented to parliament on November 20, passed the same day, and was ratified by President Mohamed Muizzu on the same day.
