Senior HDC staff suspended over forged land allocation probe
The investigation has led to the suspension of the HDC board, including Managing Director Fazul.
Several senior employees of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have been suspended as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul’s brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, was allocated a plot of land under the Binveriya scheme without being listed as a beneficiary.
The investigation has led to the suspension of the HDC board, including Managing Director Fazul.
According to a reliable source within HDC, five senior employees were suspended on Thursday in connection with the case. They include:
-
IT Consultant Abdulla Shuhood
-
Chief Financial Officer Abdulla Faid
-
Chief Business Officer Ahmed Yameen
-
Estate Deputy Director Ahmed Aiman
Deputy Director Ahmed Aiman signed the letters related to the disputed land allocation.
The case came to light after an anonymous account named Hassan Kurusee leaked documents on social media on Wednesday. According to the leaked information, two individuals were allocated the same plot of land in the second phase of Hulhumale.
Aiman sent a letter to the housing ministry in July to clarify the ownership of the plot. The response from State Minister for Housing Ibrahim Nizam, dated August 15, stated that neither individual was listed as a beneficiary in the ministry's database under the Binveriya scheme.
The leaked documents revealed the following:
-
Two individuals applied to HDC for permission to construct a fence on the same plot of land.
-
HDC requested clarification from the housing ministry regarding ownership.
-
The correspondence identified one of the claimants as Mohamed Fazeel.
-
A forged agreement was reportedly used in the land allocation process.
Social media discussions have raised allegations of corruption involving Fazul. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement and anti-corruption authorities expected to pursue further inquiries.
